I went back to cooking dinner. My mom walked through the door and didn't say a word. I just sighed I couldn't believe she forgot, sometimes I wondered if she even really loved me. I couldn't handle the attitude from her and the disrespect, I mean today is my birthday. She walked over, snatched a plate from the counter and made her food.
"Mom did you forget what today is??" I asked in a sweet voice
"Oh yeah you finally are an adult, congrats now you can move out and make it easier on me with all your boy troubles, shit take the other one with you if you can. I mean Lani is the only one who's actually helping around here." Her mother spat
"Mom c'mon don't be like that today is my birthday. I tilt you I got that job at red lobster it's just going to take time before I get paid I'm in training next week." I said starting to tear up
"Well once you get your job, I want you gone. I know you're around here fucking some little boy.. Coming home all late and shit. I can't have Lani on the line because you like to go fuck and be a hoe, I want you out and take Caiah with you. He didn't even act like I'm his mother anyways." Her mother said, looking her dead in the eye
" Ma I told you I have detention you saw the note and everything.. But hey, you want me gone, I will work on it." I said running off to my room, I crawled into the bed, scooped up Caiah and thought hard about how to get us out of here and not on the streets.
Nicki's pov
By the time school hit Monday I was a wreck it was finals week and I didn't have an apartment yet for Caiah and I , I had gotten two jobs in place I just needed somewhere to stay for the time being. Lani just gave me a car, but no other help he was done with me also. As lunch time rolled around I was desperate enough to go talk to Aubrey, Lauren couldn't take me because she already had a full house and didn't want me sleeping in my car.
"Aubrey" I said walking in, he looked up at me and smiled.
"Yeah babe what's up?" He asked
I was so nervous how could I just ask to bring my little brother and I into a house with him. But yet what was I going to do about college.
"Aubrey after this last week of school my little brother and I have to leave my mom kicked us out, I got two jobs just I need a couple of weeks to scrape together the money and cancel my attendance to the school in Canada, so I was wondering if we could just stay with you for a couple weeks."
He looked at me as the tears rolled down my face, ran his hand through his curls. You could tell this was killing him.
"You aren't canceling your attendance to school onika, you can stay with me as long as you can, I'm here for you. I just damn, I will figure this out don't worry baby girl." He got up and kissed my forehead
Drakes pov
Man what did I just get myself into.. He watched as Onika walked out the room. He had to look for jobs elsewhere, he was dedicated to her, I mean she was still a kid, but he was so deep in love what was he going to do. He needed to talk to his mother, she would know what to do. Going back to Toronto was not something he wanted to do, the darkness hovered over the city and he hated it at the same time he loved it.
Later at home
"Mom, umm I need you to listen to me and give me advice, but I don't want you to be disappointed"
"Alright Aubrey" Sandi said wearily
"So I umm am in a relationship with a student of mine, she's legal mom.. And she just got kicked out with her little brother and they need a place to stay.."
"Aubrey Drake Graham! A relationship with a student ?? Don't tell me you offered get your place to stay , your job and you are in the line.. You could go to jail for heaven's sake Aubrey, why do you always for these girls"
"These girls?? Onika is nothing like Nebby or Jade! She is intelligent, smart, beautiful, and caring. She's willing to give up her all to make sure her little brother is taken care of, if you give her a chance this girl is one who you would envision as my wife. Mom I'm letting her stay with me and I'm coming back to Canada to help her stay in school. Now I just wanted to know if we could stay with you for the time being, until I find a new job and go find a new apartment." Drake yelled into the phone.
His hand shaking, tears in his eyes, he knew he fell for someone he wasn't supposed to, the forbidden fruit.
"Aubrey I'm sorry.. I shouldn't have judged, you know my home is always open for you. I just don't want you getting locked up for being with someone who you love. You still have a family you need to think about here."
"I know mom, I just need to take care of her. You can tell she's been through a lot and she just needs someone. I want to be that someone. She's amazing mom trust me, you will love her." I said
"I know baby, and I can't wait to meet her. Well I have to go talk to you soon. Love you Aubrey don't you ever forget that." Sandi said, yawning into the phone
"Alright love you too" I said
I couldn't get the events that had just occurred out my head, the sex, her coming to me, the phone call with my mother. Am I really ready to let myself love deeply again?
Nicki's pov
As I walked into the door, I couldn't hear a sound then I heard Caiah crying, I ran back to his room to find him surrounded by all of his stuff packed up beside his bed. They have got to be fucking kidding me.. I picked him up and walked into my room, the same shit. I was pissed, I still had one more week to get my stuff together, why are they packing it now?
"Lani ! Jelani!" I screamed
"What Nicki?" Lani said
"What the hell is going on I thought I had one more week ?? Why is all of this stuff packed, I still have shit to get out and I have to be at work in 2 hours."
I asked shaking all over, Caiah was halfway asleep.
"Mom just came home and did this shit. I don't know Nicki I have helped you as much as I can.. But I need a place to stay. You shouldn't have been fucking around, maybe she would have let you stay."Lani said
As I felt Caiah completely fall asleep in my arms I had to find somewhere for him to lay him, but then my mom walked in.
"Get him off the couch, you need to move within the next 48 hours, unlike I'm renting out these rooms. I need the money you aren't bringing in."
Carol said
Nicki picked Caiah up, and put him in her car then grabbed a couple boxes of clothes. She looked at her mother one last time and thought about all the things she could say, but wouldn't.
She had never gotten Mr.graham's number so she couldn't go running to him. Jelani ran up just as Nicki was getting in the car and handed her a wad of cash.
He had finally realized how terrible the situation had gotten, this was all he could do to help.
"I'm sorry, but text me when you have a permanent place I will drop off the rest of the boxes. Just hit me up sis, I love you .. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but I do Onika I just need time to set things right before I can help you."
Nicki just nodded and drove off to the nearest motel, luckily Caiah Didn't have school but who would watch him while she went to school. She payed the bill and found out about this daycare down the street.
Why did her life have to be complicated all the time ?
Drakes pov
He went to go turn in his resignation, man this shit was getting real. The principal didn't say a thing just said good luck where very you go after this. All for the love of one girl.
As the class started there was still no sign of Onika the finals were today. As he saw her run in she looked like even more of a mess, tears stained her face, her button up was drenched. He couldn't do anything he was just her teacher in this situation. It was driving him crazy, finally as she turned in her test he grabbed her arm.
"Onika come speak to me in the hall" I said in a stern voice
All of the kids oooed and made noises, they were thinking a couple days before graduation and another student was in trouble.
She looked up at me as soon as we left the classroom
"Baby girl what's going on ?? You should be happy you're moving in with me and you're about to graduate. What happened now?" I asked, she just started bawling, when I tried to touch her she jumped and backed away.
" I got kicked out earlier than I expected,now I'm staying in a motel and had to put Ciaiah in a daycare this morning which ended up being hell because he put up a fight cried endlessly.Which is why my shirt is drenched. I just hate life right now. Aubrey I don't think I can do this I thought my mom left everything in the past, but now she’s throwing it up in my face and assuming things.” Nicki said shaking all over
“What’s going on with your mom ? What stuff in the past? Onika you need to start telling me what's going on here so I can help you” Aubrey said frustrated. He could tell she was hiding something and it was driving him crazy, how could he help her if he really didn't know her.
Nicki looked up at him. This was the time to come out about the truth about Willy.
“Aubrey about a 2 years ago I got with an older guy and things got out of control he started to beat me and my mom had noticed and then figured out what I had been doing with Willy. But it wasn't anything I wanted most of the time I was forced into these sexual altercations. If I fought I got beat. So when my older brother found out…..
